Air cargo tonnages from China and Hong Kong to the U.S. saw a sharp decline in early June, following a brief rebound in late May. In week 23 (June 2-8), flown chargeable weight dropped by 10% week-on-week and was 19% lower than the same week last year, with spot rates decreasing by 5% week-on-week and 17% year-on-year. This downturn indicates that the prior recovery was temporary, linked to a pause in U.S. import tariffs. Overall, global air cargo tonnages fell by 3% in week 23, influenced by various holidays and a significant decrease in e-commerce traffic from Hong Kong.
