Starting January 1, 2025, Lufthansa Cargo will incorporate the increased costs of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) into its Airfreight Surcharge (ASC) due to regulatory environmental requirements. A mandatory SAF blending rate of 2% will be enforced for EU departures, with other countries like India and Singapore planning similar measures. While the goal is to significantly increase SAF usage, current supplies are limited and costly. Lufthansa aims to halve its net CO₂ emissions by 2030, with a long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
