UPS will reintroduce a $0.29 per pound surcharge on all shipments from China, Hong Kong, and Macau starting April 13. This "Surge Fee," which can be adjusted at any time, applies to the shipment's billable weight and is in addition to UPS' fuel surcharge. The fee's reinstatement comes amid fluctuating U.S.-China trade relations and rising costs for goods between the nations. Additionally, China's tariffs on U.S. imports will increase to 125%, while the U.S. will eliminate the de minimis exemption for low-value imports from China and Hong Kong on May 2.
