In December 2024, Heathrow Airport handled 138,000 tonnes of cargo, marking a 3.5% year-on-year increase, and over 1.5 million tonnes for the entire year, a growth of more than 10% compared to 2023. This surge is attributed to traders leveraging the airport's expanding long-haul network for their valuable and time-sensitive shipments. Notably, cargo from Africa rose by 22% to 96,253 tonnes, while both North America and Asia Pacific saw a 14% increase. Conversely, cargo volumes for the UK and EU markets declined by 11%.
