Indian air cargo traffic is projected to rise from 3.7 million tonnes to between 5 and 5.8 million tonnes by 2029, reflecting an annual growth rate of 6-9%. This increase is supported by strong economic and trade growth, positioning the Indian market to outperform the global average. As of 2024, both international and domestic volumes have surpassed pre-pandemic levels, with a notable 19% growth in international air cargo. However, India's air cargo sector faces challenges due to a lack of large widebody freighters, with current operations relying primarily on narrowbody aircraft.
