Nippon Steel has completed its $14.2 billion acquisition of U.S. Steel, which will now operate as a subsidiary while retaining its Pittsburgh headquarters. This deal, first proposed in December 2023, is expected to create and protect 100,000 jobs through investments in various states. The U.S. government will maintain oversight through a “golden share” provision, allowing it to influence key decisions. Nippon plans to invest $11 billion in the U.S. by 2028 and ensure that U.S. Steel continues to meet market demands from domestic facilities.
