Microsoft has established a new decarbonization team aimed at reducing emissions within its supply chain, enhancing its sustainability strategy. Led by Charlie Sellars, the team consists of three members: Tim Hopper, a long-time Microsoft employee; Ray Waweru, formerly of Google; and Sofia Khan, previously with Meta. Their focus will be on addressing scope 3 emissions related to purchased goods and services, aiming for Microsoft to become carbon negative by 2030. Despite efforts, Microsoft acknowledges challenges with scope 3 emissions, which constitute 96% of its total emissions, and aims to find innovative solutions.
