Lufthansa Cargo and Maersk have partnered to advance airfreight decarbonization by utilizing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). In 2024, Lufthansa Cargo will supply 400 metric tonnes of SAF for Maersk, potentially reducing CO2 emissions by at least 1,200 metric tonnes. Maersk aims for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 and recognizes the need for increased SAF use in aviation. Both companies are committed to reducing emissions, with Lufthansa Cargo striving to halve its net CO2 emissions compared to 2019 and achieve a neutral balance by 2050.
