This project is part of a larger $1.8 billion effort to rebuild the bridge by 2028. Kiewit, which previously worked on multimodal projects in the area, will collaborate with Maryland’s transportation officials on the design. Funding details remain uncertain, with Congress considering bills for 100% federal coverage, while insurance claims and potential liability payouts will also contribute.
