The U.S. Postal Service has detailed its Regional Transportation Optimization plan, which aims to consolidate drop-off and pick-up activities at certain post offices. This plan is anticipated to slow delivery speeds for rural areas, particularly those over 50 miles from processing centers, resulting in an added transit day for mail. While the Postal Service asserts that urban areas will see a larger share of downgraded service, rural communities are expected to face significant impacts, especially regarding first-class mail. Additionally, Sundays and holidays will no longer count as transit days, potentially affecting delivery expectations.
