The airport is unique in its ability to transport all animal species and saw significant cargo operations disrupted by a power outage in March 2025. In response, plans for a third runway were supported by the Chancellor, with a multi-billion-pound investment announced for upgrades. This project aims to enhance economic growth and infrastructure while boosting domestic steel demand.
