The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) members will vote on a new master contract for East and Gulf Coast ports on February 25. The ILA’s wage scale committee recently approved a tentative six-year agreement with the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX). Key contract provisions include a ban on fully automated terminals, early engagement with the ILA before purchasing new technology, and a commitment that no workforce reductions will result from technology implementation. This agreement follows a three-day strike in October that disrupted port operations.
