The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) have resumed negotiations for a new Master Contract ahead of a January 15, 2025 deadline, but significant progress remains elusive. While USMX expressed optimism about advancements in some areas, it raised concerns over ILA’s resistance to technology that could hinder industry evolution. ILA countered that any automation threatens jobs, emphasizing its commitment to modernization without replacing human roles. Both parties are eager to reach an agreement following previous wage increases and contract extensions.
