The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released updated net zero roadmaps highlighting the feasibility of achieving decarbonization in the air transport sector by 2050, contingent upon significant investment and unified policymaking. The reports emphasize the urgency of immediate actions, such as enhancing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) integration and establishing a global SAF accounting framework. Additionally, they stress the need for collaboration across sectors to eliminate barriers to investment in cleaner technologies. The estimated annual capital expenditures required for this transition are projected at $128 billion, with an emphasis on redirecting subsidies from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources.
