The Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) reported strong momentum in third-quarter intermodal volumes, with a total of 4,627,631 units, marking a 9.8% annual increase—the fourth consecutive quarter of growth after eight quarters of decline. Domestic containers rose by 6.0%, while trailers dropped by 11.0%. Despite challenges in manufacturing and housing, consumer spending remained robust. IANA anticipates continued growth driven by West Coast imports and improved market conditions, forecasting a 7.7% annual increase for total 2024 volume.
