The AN-225 Mriya, a remarkable engineering feat built in the 1980s by the Antonov Design Bureau, was originally designed to transport the Buran space shuttle and later operated commercially, holding multiple airlift records. However, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, it was severely damaged at Hostomel Airport. Investigations revealed that it could have been relocated, leading to allegations of negligence against Antonov’s leadership. Despite this loss, plans for reconstruction are underway, with hopes that Mriya will soar again, symbolizing resilience and innovation in aviation.
