The latest Trucking Conditions Index (TCI) from FTR has declined to -2.47 in September, down from -1.39 in August, indicating a weakening trucking environment despite previous growth. A TCI above zero reflects adequate conditions in the trucking market, while negative scores suggest pessimism. The decline was attributed to poor freight dynamics, including reduced freight rates and volumes, even as fuel costs fell. FTR anticipates a gradual improvement in conditions, with expectations of positive readings over the next two years, driven by rising capacity utilization and freight rates.
