The latest Shippers Conditions Index (SCI) from FTR showed notable growth, rising to 4.6 in September from August’s 2.9, indicating a more favorable transport environment for shippers. Contributing factors included lower fuel costs, looser capacity, and decreased freight rates. Despite this peak for 2024, FTR anticipates a return to weaker and neutral readings over the next two years. Vice President Avery Vise emphasized that while September’s index reflects a more balanced market, future fluctuations are expected, particularly with the potential impact of tariffs in 2025.
