In 2024, greenhouse gas emissions from companies in the Rotterdam port decreased by 1.7 million tons (8%) compared to 2023, totaling 19.2 million tons. This reduction is attributed to reduced industrial production and increased sustainable energy use in the Netherlands, including the closure of coal plants and the adoption of renewable resources. Power plants in the port emitted 12% less, while the industrial sector saw a 7% reduction. The Port of Rotterdam Authority has also begun including unregistered emissions in its reports, based on estimates from CE Delft, which provided guidance for improving emissions tracking.
