The Donkey Sanctuary has partnered with Emirates to address the dangers associated with the air transportation of donkey skins, linked to organized crime. They developed the Aviation Risk and Threat Assessment guide to educate the aviation sector on the biosecurity risks of smuggling donkey skins alongside legitimate cargo. Each year, six million donkeys are killed for their skins, primarily in Africa. Emirates has banned the transport of donkey hides and supports a continent-wide moratorium on donkey slaughter endorsed by African leaders. The initiative aims to combat the illegal donkey skin trade and its connections to wildlife trafficking.
