DHL Group and Scania have collaborated to create an electric truck featuring a fuel-powered generator, facilitating a transition to battery-electric transport without a complete charging infrastructure. The Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) aims to address challenges like charging point shortages and grid strain while allowing DHL to operate 80-90% on renewable energy. Set for deployment between Berlin and Hamburg, the truck offers a range of 650-800 kilometers and can be refueled at standard petrol stations. This initiative seeks to reduce CO2 emissions significantly, with both companies advocating for interim solutions in the shift toward sustainable logistics.
