CSX locomotives have started transporting double-stacked shipping containers from the Port of Baltimore, a long-awaited development hailed by state and railroad leaders. CSX President Joe Hinrichs called it a “significant milestone,” while Maryland Governor Wes Moore celebrated the event. However, the project faces a major challenge with the ongoing expansion of the Howard Street Tunnel, set for completion next year, which will enhance cargo capacity. This initiative aims to increase the port’s annual capacity by 160,000 containers, ultimately modernizing freight infrastructure and creating jobs.
