U.S. President Donald Trump has successfully pressured Colombia into accepting deportation flights from the U.S. after threatening to impose a 25% tariff on Colombian goods, which could rise to 50%. This ultimatum stemmed from Colombia’s refusal to allow planes carrying illegal immigrants to land, a decision made by President Gustavo Petro. Following Trump’s threats, Colombia agreed to the terms, and the tariffs were put on hold. Colombia’s Foreign Ministry indicated that discussions would continue in Washington, ensuring the dignified return of deportees.
