Cathay Pacific has partnered with Sinopec to refuel some flights from Hong Kong International Airport with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced from waste materials, specifically used cooking oil, by Sinopec’s Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company. This SAF, certified to reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by about 80%, is part of Cathay’s initiative to enhance the SAF supply chain in collaboration with the Chinese Mainland. The airline has previously utilized SAF in Europe and aims to increase its use in Asia, while supporting policies to bolster Hong Kong’s aviation hub status.
