APM Terminals has acquired the Panama Canal Railway Company from Canadian Pacific Kansas City to enhance its logistics capabilities in Panama. The railway, which spans 47 miles and connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, will maintain its brand and management structure. APM Terminals is also upgrading its Panama Pacifico distribution center, expanding it to over 215,000 square feet, with completion expected by May. Meanwhile, CPKC will refocus on expanding its rail business in North America, considering Panama a growth market for intermodal services.
