Global air cargo tonnages saw a slight increase of three percent in week 6 (February 3-9) after a dip during the Lunar New Year holiday. However, worldwide rates dropped five percent to $2.30 per kilo, which is three percent lower than last year. Significant declines were noted in Asia Pacific rates, falling 11 percent week on week. Additionally, tonnages from China to the U.S. plummeted by 41 percent year on year, partly due to the holidays and new customs processing backlogs. Spot rates from China to the U.S. decreased to $3.99 per kilo, down 19 percent from the previous year.
