For the week ending November 30, U.S. rail carload and intermodal volumes experienced annual declines, likely due to the Thanksgiving holiday’s timing. Rail carloads totaled 189,746, down 19.9% from previous weeks. Although miscellaneous carloads increased by 236 to 7,833, other commodities like coal, nonmetallic minerals, and metallic ores saw significant declines. Intermodal containers and trailers decreased by 8.5% to 249,616 units. Year-to-date, rail carloads are down 3.1% at 10,468,228, while intermodal units rose by 9.1% to 12,749,686.
