For the week ending November 2, U.S. rail carload and intermodal volumes reported annual increases, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR). Rail carloads reached 228,635, marking a 1.9% rise compared to previous weeks. Seven out of ten tracked carload commodity groups saw growth, particularly in chemicals, grain, and nonmetallic minerals, while coal declined by 7,949 carloads. Intermodal containers and trailers also increased by 10.7% to 288,108 units. However, for the first 44 weeks of 2024, total rail carloads were down 3.0%, while intermodal units rose by 9.0%.
