Fashion industry groups are advocating for enhanced working conditions for garment and footwear workers in Bangladesh, aiming for a “sustainable partnership” with the country. The American Apparel and Footwear Association and Fair Labor Association recently joined forces in Dhaka to push for improved worker rights, supported by representatives from major brands. Bangladesh, the second largest exporter of ready-made garments, is urged to address longstanding issues like wages and labor laws. Recent efforts include calls for better labor rights and the establishment of independent trade unions.
