India’s air cargo exports to the US have significantly declined following a sharp increase in tariffs imposed by the US government in late August. After experiencing steady growth due to US importers shifting from Chinese suppliers, exports weakened when a 25% tariff became effective on August 7, followed by a hike to 50% announced by President Trump. Consequently, airfreight volumes surged temporarily as shippers rushed to beat the deadline but then fell sharply by 12% and 14% in the subsequent weeks. In contrast, India–Europe cargo flows have increased, and Sri Lanka’s exports to the US also grew. Overall, global air cargo markets remain volatile, with notable shifts in trade patterns observed.
