Designer Brands, which owns DSW, is enhancing U.S. inventory management by shifting digital orders from stores to fulfillment centers, leading to a more efficient operation. CEO Douglas Howe noted that in the second quarter, over 80% of digital demand was met through logistics centers, improving in-stock levels of regular-priced items to about 70%. The brand is focusing on inventory productivity by reducing choice count by 25% while increasing stock depth by 15%. Other retailers, like Target and Nordstrom Rack, are also reevaluating their in-store fulfillment strategies for better efficiency.
