The Universal Postal Union (UPU) has implemented a technical solution to help postal operators resume deliveries to the U.S. after a significant drop in traffic due to new customs regulations. These rules, effective August 29, placed the duty collection burden on carriers, leading to an 81% decline in postal traffic, with many operators suspending services. The UPU’s new Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) tool, accessible via an API, allows duties to be calculated at the origin, facilitating smoother deliveries. This development comes at a critical time during the 28th Universal Postal Congress in Dubai, which aims to modernize postal services to adapt to e-commerce and global needs.
